How to design your own Facebook welcome page

You’ve probably seen the specialized welcome pages that several brands and companies use on Facebook. Here’s one example:

You can of course use an agency to design this page for you, but if you’ve already got some cool graphics to use or if you just want a simple, tailored HTML page, why not make it yourself? – It’s free and it’s fun.

Here’s one way of doing it:

Log on to Facebook. Search for  ”Woobox” in the search field. This will probably bring up a number of suggestions. Choose the one indicated below:

This gives you a page like this:

You’ll have to confirm by clicking on the green button. If you’re the administrator for several Facebook pages, you’ll have to choose the page you wish to add Woobox to:

You may also have to authorize the application for the page in question.

When you’ve done this, go to the page to which you’ve added Woobox. You’ll now see a new link in your left hand column saying “Welcome”. Click it:

You’ll now get lots of different options. The main choice is how you’ll make your welcome page; your “page source“. If you already have a graphic that you want to use, you may choose “image” here and simply upload this. Or, if you want to make your welcome page clickable or you want to add text, go for the “HTML” option.

Choosing “HTML” gives you the oppurtunity of entering raw HTML into the window.

If you can’t write HTML or you prefer a WYSIWYG editor, simply click “Editor” as shown below:

This gives you a WYSIWYG (“What You See Is What You Get”)-editor whick enables you to format text, enter images etc. in much the same way as a word processing program like Word:

Go ahead and design your welcome page, and click “Wiew Tab” in the upper right corner to view the results.

Remember to click “Save Settings” at the bottom when you’re done:

In order for new users to get your welcome page rather than the wall when entering your Facebook page for the first time, you need to set your default page setting.

You do this by first clicking the “Edit page” button:

You then need to set the “Default landing tab”-setting to the “Welcome” position (“Welcome” is the welcome page you created):

Then finish by clicking “Save changes”.

In order to see the effect of this, you should get a friend to access the page from his Facebook account, rather than doing it yourself. Because you are an administrator of the page, the Welcome tab will not display as an opening tab for you, as you are already by definition a fan.

Good luck!
